Orthopaedics

What is Orthopaedics?

Orthopaedics is the medical specialty focused on the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of injuries and diseases of the body’s musculoskeletal system. This comprehensive field encompasses the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and nerves that allow us to move, work, and be active throughout our lives. Orthopaedic surgeons, often called orthopaedists, are medical doctors with extensive training in both surgical and non-surgical approaches to treating musculoskeletal issues. After completing medical school, these specialists undergo at least five years of residency training, with many pursuing additional fellowship training in subspecialties such as spine surgery, sports medicine, or joint replacement. The field of orthopaedics continues to evolve with technological advancements, allowing for more precise diagnoses and increasingly effective treatments that help patients regain mobility and improve their quality of life.
